HISTORY OF THE FACULTY


THE MOST IMPORTANT EVENTS IN THE HISTORY OF THE FACULTY  OF AGRICULTURE AND BIOTECHNOLOGY

1967

A Consultation Centre for extramural studies of the Agricultural School of Higher Education in Poznań is established in Bydgoszcz.

1969

The Bydgoszcz Branch of the Agricultural School of Higher Education  in Poznań is founded – the first  inauguration  of academic year is held – in the Bydgoszcz  branch of the Agricultural  School of Higher Education. The buildings located in Bernardyńska and  Hanki Sawickiej (now Mazowiecka) streets are taken over by the Faculty.

1972

The Bydgoszcz Branch of the Faculty of Agriculture of the Agricultural School of Higher Education is launched along with the Faculty of Animal Breeding  – Wojciech Cieśla, assistant professor, is appointed to be the first dean of this autonomic academic unit.

1973

The first graduates of the Faculty of Agriculture in Bydgoszcz   leave the confines of the school  – holders of B.Sc. degree in agriculture who have  graduated  from a full time course of study  (36 people) and part time course of study  (42 people). Agricultural Experimental Institute is established in Gliszcz-Wierzchucinek

1974

Jan & Jędrzej Śniadeccy University of Technology and Agriculture (ATR) is founded  in Bydgoszcz. The Bydgoszcz Branch of the Faculty of Agriculture  of the Agricultural School of Higher Education in Poznań is transformed into  the Institute of Agriculture of ATR in Bydgoszcz.

1975

The Institute of  Agriculture is the first academic unit in Bydgoszcz to be  granted  Ph. D. awarding powers in Agrotechnology (since 1992 Agronomy).


1976

Assistant professors: Włodzimierz Łoginow and  Wojciech Cieśla are the first in the history of the Faculty to be conferred the title of associate professors. The first doctoral dissertation carried out in  the  Institute of  Agriculture of  ATR is completed with  conferment of doctor’s  degree  to Mr Romuald Rajs, M.Sc.

1980

Foundation of  the  Włocławek Branch of the Faculty of Agriculture which functioned until  1984 r. –81 students graduated from a full time course of study.

1984

The Institute of Agriculture  of ATR is granted powers to award  the title of habilitated doctor   in the field of Agrotechnology  (Agronomy) – the first academic unit in Bydgoszcz to be granted the powers  to carry out proceedings leading to conferment of  scientific titles. The traditional name - the Faculty is returned. Ceremony on the occasion of the fifteenth anniversary is held, the number of graduates has exceeded 2500



1985

Włodzimierz Łoginow and  Wojciech Cieśla, are the first in the  history of the Faculty  to be conferred  the title of full professors.

1986

The first full time study specialization – Plant Protection is launched  within the  Major of Agriculture.

1987

The first proceedings  leading to the conferment of the academic degree of habilitated doctor is completed  at the Faculty of Agriculture and Mr Paweł Nowaczyk is the first to be conferred the title of habilitated doctor.

1989

The 20th anniversary of Agricultural Studies in Bydgoszcz. The Faculty employs 20 senior academic staff members, 75 doctoral degree awarding  proceedings have been carried out,  3400 M. Sc. and B.Sc. degrees have been awarded in the field of Agriculture.

1990

The Faculty of Agriculture  is moved to Building 3.1. in Fordon.

1991

 A lecture hall in Fordon is named after professor  Włodzimierz Łoginow.

1993

The Curriculum Reform involving  extending the profile of education  at full time studies through introduction of new subjects: Agronomy, Agrobiology, Agribusiness, Plant Protection, Agricultural Environment Protection is implemented.

1994

The 25th anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture  of ATR is celebrated.  30 professors and habilitated doctors are employed. The number of graduates is  4100, the number of successfully completed doctoral proceedings  exceeds 100 and  14   habilitated doctor titles have been conferred. The Faculty  units are located within five objects.

1995

Professor Wojciech Cieśla commemorative plaque is mounted in the hall of the  building in Bernadyńska street.


1996

Professor Stanisław Grabarczyk is the first in the academic community of Bydgoszcz to be conferred  the title of doctor honoris causa of the University of Technology and Agriculture. Organizational Reform of  Agricultural Experimental Plants is implemented  – foundation of the Faculty Research Station in Mochełek.

1997

Introduction of the first doctoral  study program in Bydgoszcz at the Faculty of Agriculture. Doctoral studies of agricultural disciplines are provided  as part time studies and in cooperation with  the Faculty of Animal Breeding.

1999

Launch of the third major of study – Marketing and Management. Full time and part time B.Sc. degree  studies are offered in  specializations: Marketing and  Food Production Management. The 30th anniversary of the Faculty. The number of graduates of agricultural studies has exceeded  5000,  123 doctoral dissertations have been successfully completed as well as  20 titles of habilitated doctor  have been conferred.

2000

Arrangement  of  the first  Conference for deans of  agricultural faculties  from Polish Agricultural Universities.


2001

Doctoral program of agricultural study is launched at the Faculty of Agriculture. Prof. Andrzej Dubas from the Agricultural School of Higher Education in Poznań is conferred the  title of doctor honoris causa.

2004

UThe Faculty of Agriculture is granted another power of doctor degree awarding in Natural Environment Management  – the first faculty with two degree awarding powers. Ceremony of the 35th anniversary of  the Faculty is held. The number of graduates has approached 6300, 157 doctoral dissertations have been successfully completed, and 29 titles of  habilitated have been conferred. There are 31 senior academic staff members  The quality of education at the Major of Agriculture  has been positively assessed  by the State Accreditation Committee.

2006

The Faculty Council confers the first in history Ph.D. degree in  the field of Environment Management to Magdalena Banach-Szott, the Major of  Biotechnology is positively assessed  by the State Accreditation Committee  and the Faculty is classified  to be  R1 (the highest research activity) on the basis of parametric assessment of research units. The  University of Technology and Agriculture is renamed  the University of Technology and Life Sciences.

2007

A commemorative plaque is unveiled and a lecture hall located in the building  in  Bernardyńska street is named after  professor Stanisław Grabarczyk. The Faculty of Management of  UTP is founded  whose most staff members have been recruited from  the Faculty of Agriculture. The fourth major is launched -Nutrition Technology and Human Nutrition.


2008

Professors Jerzy Sypniewski  and Wojciech Budzyński from the Warmińsko-Mazurski University in Olsztyn are conferred the title of doctor  honoris causa of the University of Technology and Life Sciences.

2009

The 40th  anniversary of the UTP Faculty of Agriculture with 7850 graduates, 200 successfully completed doctoral dissertations, 32 habilitated  doctor titles conferred.


2010

The  Faculty of Agriculture is renamed  the Faculty of Agriculture and Biotechnology

A new major- Agrochemistry is launched. The major is offered in cooperation with  the Faculty of Chemical Engineering of the University of Gdańsk, (education at this major was offered until  2014). Education  at the major of Management and Marketing is finished. Currently this major is offered at the Faculty of Management of the UTP. Again the State  Accreditation Committee provides positive assessment of the quality of  education offered at the  Faculty of Agriculture.

2011

A new major is launched – Landscape Architecture. The State Accreditation Committee provides  positive assessment of the quality of teaching for  the major of Biotechnology. The first graduates of the Nutrition Technology and Human Nutrition leave the confines of the University. A  three cycle system of academic education (B.Sc. degree , M.Sc. degree  and D.Sc degree studies) is implemented.

2012

A commemorative plaque for Jerzy Sypniewski, Ph. D. Doctor Honoris Causa of UTP   in Bydgoszcz is unveiled  in the building of Plant Cultivation  in Kordeckiego street.

2013

The structure of the Faculty of Agriculture and Biotechnology  is changed – 10 departments come into being. The State Accreditation Committee provides positive assessment of the quality of teaching for the major of  Nutrition Technology and Human Nutrition. A resolution to launch a new unique major of study – Nanobioengineering is made.

2014

The 45th anniversary of the Faculty of Agriculture and Biotechnology of the UTP with  9592 graduates, 223 doctor degrees  and habilitated doctor titles, 46 successfully completed proceedings for granting the title of professor.


2015

The first graduates of Landscape Architecture, B.Sc. degree studies,  leave the confines of the University. The State Accreditation Committee provides positive assessment of the Faculty of Agriculture and Biotechnology to be binding from  2020/2021 academic year.

2016

The second cycle study program is launched at the major of Food Technology and Human Nutrition. A commemorative  plaque for professor Mark Jassem is unveiled in the biotechnological laboratory.
